The South African Skydiving League is open to all current PASA SSA members and the jumps can be performed
at any of the PASA dropzones.
The following FS events will be hosted in the league:
- 2-Way
- 4-Way Basic
- 4-Way Advanced
You may only enter one 4-way category per month, but you are allowed to switch categories
from month to month.
You may enter both 2-way and 4-way in a single month but only your highest result of the two will be counted
towards your individual league standing.
In the 4-way event you are allowed to change one member of your team per event month, two over the whole league
period. More than that and it is considered a new team and has to be entered as such.
Each participant in the league will be handicapped based on their experience (jumps and tunnel time). This
may be adjusted during the course of the league season. Your team's combined average handicap will be applied
each month to determine the team's weighted score for that competition. This allows for jumpers of any combination of experience
levels to compete equally.
4-way Basic draws will include a subset of the 4-way Advanced Dive pool, making it easier to accomplish for less experienced skydivers.
You may enter either 4-way Basic or 4-way Advanced each month but because your handicap acts as an equaliser, 4-way Basic
results will be adjusted down (30%) to make them comparable with 4-way Advanced results. The reduced difficulty allows 4-way Basic and 4-way
Advanced to compete and compare scores without the "double penalty" effect of a handicap and harder jump for the Advanced competitors.
Remember though - there is still a separate 4-way Basic and 4-way Advanced leaderboard. This adjustment is only for individual league points allocation.
NOTE: For the last round at Nationals the 4-way novice scores are adjusted down
by 50% and the Intermediate 4-way scores are adjusted down by 25%.
You have three weeks from the start of each month's competition to submit your team's jumps based on the drawn
rounds. Once you have submitted a round, you may not submit it a second time. The last week of each month
will be used to judge all rounds and update the league standings.
The weighting calculation works as follows:
- 1 hour of tunnel time is equated to 80 jumps
- Jumper A has 1000 jumps and 2 hours of tunnel . His total jumps
equates to 1160.
- Jumper B has 500 jumps and no tunnel time.
- Their team weighting is calculated by
dividing the weighting ratio by the total jump numbers ( including
tunnel) for each jumper :
- Jumper A: 150 / 1160 = 0.129
- Jumper B: 150 / 500 = 0.3
- The weighted ratio for their 2-way team is thus (0.129 + 0.3) / 2 = 0.2145
- If they score 11 points on their first round, it is adusted to (11 * 0.2145) + 11 = 13.3595 points
Every month the members of the top 5 placed teams in 4-way / 2-way will be awarded league points for their
placing that month. The league points will be assigned as follows:
- 1st Place - 5 points
- 2nd Place - 4 points
- 3rd Place - 3 points
- 4th Place - 2 points
- 5th Place - 1 points
If two competitors have the same league points the most novice individual in the tied position on
the leaderboard will be awarded the higher ranking.
If you don't agree with our rules, formulas or approach, by all means, contact us with suggestions. Please remember, however, that
the league organisers' aim is to provide a fun, challenging competition in an accessible format to all PASA SSA jumpers. We have thought hard
about our structure and will adjust as we feel necessary to keep it fair, but if you really don't like it, create your own league! The more
competition we can create, the more we all benefit. Game ON!
